Hope someone can help me with this since I've never had a problem with them before. I live in South Florida and was in my garden this morning. The plants were brushing against my legs and I felt something crawling on me. I will attach pictures. It is so small, smaller then to head of a pin. I have 2 toddlers at home who love being in the garden, that's why I'm nervous. There were about 8 of them crawling on my legs, but non of then attached to my skin.
I do not have any pets and the closest deer is probably not within 50 miles of me. The neighbors do have a dog, but they seem to take really good care of the dog and the dogs run is no where near where my garden is. I've dealt with ticks up North, but never saw then this small. Don't know if ticks look like this when they are that small. Just for reference, the "bug" is on my finger in the pictures.
Is this a tick?!
Not ticks. They lack the elongated head/mouthparts of ticks, plus they have antennae which ticks don't have. Also, the insect shown has only 6 legs (3 pairs), while ticks have 8 legs (4 pairs); larval ticks have 6 legs but the other points still show they're not ticks, even in the larval stage.
