I spent the last three days (February 24 to 26) at a ranch in SW Texas as indicated on the map in the first photo. In going through the photos, I am unsure of the ID on some of the birds and don't know some at all.
1. map
2. Grosbeak or Bunting maybe?
3. Field Sparrow?
4. Lincoln's Sparrow
5. Same bird as #4
Texas birds
Here's my thoughts; won't guarantee they're correct though!
2 House Sparrow, female
3,4,5 correct
6,7,9 correct
8,10,11,12,13,15 Rufous-crowned
14 White-crowned, juvenile
Resin
Thanks, Resin! Female house sparrow is a surprise. But, I did see a male house sparrow while we were out there, so could be.
Do you think that the one ID'd as a female house sparrow could possibly be a female Lesser Goldfinch? They were also out there.
Also, I can't see how to close out these threads anymore. How do I do that?
Nope, bill's wrong for a finch ;-)
Dunno about the 'close thread'! Doesn't matter too much though, it never meant anything much anyway (e.g. it didn't stop new replies being added)
Thanks! Yes, the bill doesn't fit the goldfinch.
Ok. I won't worry about closing threads anymore.
