With the white eyebrow and the fact you are in California, I believe this is a Bewick's Wren, a bird I hope to see some day. :)

The white markings on the ones around here are more subtle - some bird watchers try to hear the call also. Or maybe I should say listen for the call first, then look for the wren?

This is very enjoyable to watch the nesting material being brought into this "decorative" bird house on out deck. I guess I need to build a real one for next year. The other resident of this house has been a Carpenter Bee. Lots of sawdust under this old Antiques shop.
