I've had my amaryllis outside all summer. They seem to be doing well(aside from red blotch- grr) but they are putting out new growth instead of preparing for dormancy. What should I do with them? I'm in Zone 5, southern Maine.
Amaryllis not going dormant- what should I do?
I have been told that amaryllis do not NEED to go dormant, if you don't care when they bloom.
Let them dry out completely. I take mine out of the pots (I only have a few) and let them dry. The leaves will die back then I bring them indoors and sit them on a shelf. I check them every 3-4 weeks and when I see new growth staring I pot up and start them.
Letting them dry out won't hurt them when they're trying to grow?
Not that I have found.
