We have a summer home on a British Columbia Gulf Island, (north of Seattle Wa.) called Hornby Island. It has no garbage collection. All garbage must go the the recycling centre. (an unsorted bag of crud costs you $2.00!!) Everything else is free. Everything is recycled and sorted, bagged and shelved. I have found a thousand treasures there!! Antiques, watercolour paintings, antique french porcelain (No kidding!) Paperbacks, ski-boots, appliances, kid gear, if you need it, it'll be there sooner or later.
Try your search engine: Hornby Island Recycling Centre
or janetl@mars.ark.com (she's the director, -will direct you to their site) Now that's a dirt cheap source!!
They have received many awards for their centre, -worth thinking about the next time you go to a municipal meeting!
Just to make you guys jealous.
