I've been having lots of problems with hive beetles, so in addition to the use of traps I was considering moving the hives to a bridge over a creek (flooding that could wash away the hives is not a concern). Some times the creek runs dry, but when it does the area beneath the hives would be a gravel bottom, not dirt. Since the mature larva leave the hive and burrow into the soil for growth, I think this location would help "break the cycle" of the beetles. I've seen some posts about "floating hives" in swamps but have not found any about placing a hive on a boat dock or bridge, and was curious if anyone has tried this (with good or bad results), or has ideas about it. Thanks
