Russian sage question

Hello,
I am moving and trying to relocate a very old Russian sage with big woody roots. I had to cut the wood parts to get it out of the ground. Sadly there is a chunk of wood and very few little roots on the bottom of it. can I just plant this whole thing and will it grow new roots or is it a goner? Thanks for your help, Sue

I would plant it and see- I have been surprised sometimes at what will grow back from a mutilated root.
But this is also the proper time of year for cuttings of this species of shrub. You are clearly attached to this shrub, so in your spare time (ha ha)you might just give it a try. Then if it works you will have more than one!

I would second Pistil's advice on taking some cuttings. I've heard that Russian sage doesn't like to be moved because of it's roots.
