This bird caught my attention,as he looked somewhat like a hawk. My first thought was Kestrel. Apologies for the poor focus. Any help with an ID?
CLOSED: Kestrel?
Yes, it is a male, American Kestrel. Two stripes on the cheek make it Kestrel. The blue wings, orangy upper breast with spots below that make it a male. Is this around home? They make great mousers, especially in the cold months. Until the little family dispersed, they seemed to focus on snakes and insects.
This is North of our home, at my late father-in-law's spread, where I seldom find time to take photos. Family is in the process of clearing the lot for sale, so I doubt I'll get much birding in. This was such a beautiful bird roosting in a long-dead cottonwood. Thanks so much for the clarification. I'll keep watching for him when I'm able.
