Hydrangeas "made for the shade"?

(Zone 4b)

We have had a "Tokyo Delight" lacecap for several years with minimal blooms. I have come to the conclusion that it is in too much shade.

We want a hydrangea in this location and I am willing to try a different one.

It seems that quercifolia are more agreeable to less sun than others?

Do I have this correct?

(If so quercifolia "Ruby Slippers", with its more compact size seems like a good one).

I think macrophylla types are the ones that are more shade tolerant than quercifolia types that do better with more sun. Oak leaf can tolerate drier soil than macs though.

You could limb up some of your shade trees to let more light in.

Glyn Church recommends for shade Marechal Foch, Mme. Travouillon, Parzifal, Quadricolor, Sister Therese.
