Impatients

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

I did not plant impatients for the past 2 years because they were experiencing state wide disease . The Nursey owner told me that she planted some this year and they were doing fine.I got some help rom my grandson and we planted 16 plants in May and they are doing fine, but I planted 8 more about 3 weeks ago and I am seeing the leaves are turning yellow and falling off. Do you know if the disease is still affecting the plants ?

The research I did a few years ago, when Downy Mildew was just starting, said that they had no idea how long it remained active in soil. I am still seeing mostly Sunpatiens planted or for sale in this area. Here is what I said in 2013:

I see that I wrote that some people were planning to give soils 2-5 years and others recommended ten years! Unfortunately DG new format stripped off the accompanying photo.

Here are some pictures on another site--hope this helps!

I must say that my impatients did well this year compared to last year and the disease that killed most of them . The nursery owner was honest to me because the plants did very well.
