Looking for tips on using fusible vinyl for tote bags..

I'm wanting to make a tote bag for my granddaughter's swim towels and suits for her pool sessions. I found a fusible vinyl at Joann's yesterday and was looking for any and all tips/suggestions from someone who has used it. I remember reading a post of someone using it for a lunch bag, but evidently didn't bookmark it. Googling articles are confusing, some say fuse both sides of fabric, others say just the right side.
I want to embroider her name on it, too, so just want to be sure of how to use it correctly. Thanks in advance for any tips!
