Questions about African Violet potting mix - Please help

Canton, IL(Zone 5b)

I have been seeing Coconut Coir on the site that I purchase my items I use for my African Violet potting mix.

I would like to know if it would be good to use as part of my potting mixture.

My mix is: 1 part peat, 1 part vermiculite, and 2 parts perlite.

Would the Coconut Coir be good or even better to use in the mix?

Should it replace any of the other items or just add it along with everything else?

I currently water from the tops of the pots, but am planning on switching to wick watering.

You can use it. I'd ditch the vermiculite though. Holds too much water. AVs like to dry out a bit between waterings.

The African Violet sites (rob's violet barn), and even the site for AVS (?? might have the letters wrong) say to use vermiculite. Not a lot, but some. That is why I've always used it. I do use a larger coarse version of vermiculite in my mix.

I accidently deleted an email from Rob's with AV potting mix directions. I couldn't remember if the email mentioned coir.
