Lawn Issues

Newcastle, United Kingdom

We had a new lawn put down a few years ago and it now looks awful. See attached. Some of the grass is fine, other sections are as attached. Do we need to start from scratch and lay new turf or can it be redeemed?

Can you give more info re the lawn. How long is a FEW years ago ????.
Is the lawn used as a play area for kids, animals or heavy foot traffic.
Have you done anything with the lawn since it was laid, Use of Spring feed, Autumn feeds etc,
Have you ever used a grass eariator that removes dead / or brown gras from down into the grass where the mower cant reach.
These are all treatments for caring and feeding lawns and helping it to stay green and lush BUT, we have had one of the wettest / coldest winters on records so that may also be a problem with lawns in your area.

Take a look around your neighbourhood and see other lawns, are they suffering like your's or are they OK, if they are looking like yours then you can take that to mean it's the local environment, IF it's just your lawn then you either have a grass Disease, or the lawn has had no proper care, feeding etc and by giving answers to these questions above, then there will be better help to offer you.
It's always better to try save a lawn IF it's possible, it might be a long path to take BUT it will be a lot less costly for you and IF you have the time to help bring the grass back to how it should be, then you can look out the window and say, I did that and the lawn is NOW lush and Green with NO bare patches. Now summer is here, or supposed to be, it's the wrong time to lay a new lawn as the temps rise the grass new grass cant cope, Late summer, into September is best for new lawn work as the soil is still warm BUT the temps are cooling down.

Get back here and others may also be able to help you out.
Good luck.
Kindest Regards.
