Making organic shampoo from plants

SYRACUSE, NY

Make organic shampoo from a plant called Soapwort or Bouncing Bet.

This plant grows wild here in the Northeast US and although its not edible you can put it to use by making an all natural shampoo from it.
You can also use this shampoo as hand and body soap and as a gentle alternative for people with sensitive skin and scalp.

Ok so here is the simple recipe.
2 Cups of chopped soapwort leaves and stems (1 cup dried)
1 Quart distilled water

Put them in a pot and boil for 10 min. Then bottle and keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.
You can also add other herbs to this mix like lavender, rosemary, or lemon balm for example.

Ok I hope you find this post use full and I hope its in the correct spot here on DG. If it needs to be moved please let me know were to move it to.

Bouncing Bet is invasive here, but folks still grow it, or at least turn a blind eye to it where it grows. I tolerate it because butterflies like it. I will have to try this recipe with some of the excess.
