How do you get cats to get along?

We have 5 housecats. Our oldest daughter just moved home for a month while she switches colleges. She has a cat that's about 6 months old. Today we drove for 8 hours with this cat and he is very mild mannered. He mostly slept on DD's lap the whole way. But, when we got home, the fight was on. I don't know if we can do this for a month. Is there anything we can do?
