Challenges of gardening in the Pacific Northwest

Juneau, AK

I am learning as I go, gardening here in Southeast Alaska is a definitely a "horse of a different color. I have found that a lot of things that worked elsewhere just dont cut it here. One of the most important things I have learned is that it is necessary is to protect the annuals (and newly returning perrenials) from excessive rainfall and high winds. Nasturtiums and other annuals like them are especially vulnerable but, with a little shelter will do amazingly well🌱🌿🌼 Good luck and get growing!

I'll have to ask my Aunt what she had the best luck with when she was in Alaska. Where I live, it is NOT the rain, but the HEAT and wind that create challenges. We get lots of over 100 degrees and it is a "desert" here. NOTHING (but sagebrush) grows unless you water it here!
