I purchased a Bay Laural plant and it is about 8 in. high and looks very healthy. I was wondering if I would snip the top off. Would it put branches out in the lower part of the plant? I live in zone 4 so this will be a potted plant that will summer outside and winter in.
Bay Laural Plant
I thought Ft. Wayne IN was zone 5B.
It is either in 4 or 5 depending on the chart you have. I've always thought 4, there is a big difference between north and southern In. as temperatures go. I could never leave a Bay Laural outside in the winter, it could possibly winter in a cool garage. I just received 1 stick about 6-7" and it is very healthy, I was wondering if I cut the top off if it would branch out.
There's one way to find out: try it.
:))) Yep. :)) thanks for the help, now I'm confused as to what zone I live in. LOL.
Dave's has a "find your zone using our zip code" page. Also many at Google.
Acts238, apparently Laurus nobilis (Bay Laurel) responds very well to pruning. Even pruning the side branches back to a leaf node will result in more lateral branching.
edited to correct sp.
