Thorns on Meyer Lemon

Mohrsville, PA(Zone 6a)

My Meyer Lemon I bought has done well inside over the winter. It's now sprouting new leaves and flower buds It also has some nasty nearly inch long thorns on it. Is this normal for a lemon to have these thorns? First time I've seen this on citrus.

Yes, the thorns are normal unfortunately, and sharp too! I purposely keep my ML cut back so when I move it in and out of the house, I don't get stuck as much.

I nip off the thorns along the main stem which helps a lot when moving my ML in and out of the house.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, them suckers are nasty, and some about an inch long.
