My younger brother built a beautiful privacy fence from free shipping palates. He knows wood and picked only a certain kind of hard wood, he then dismantled them, and nailed the slates, horizontally on alternating sides to 4x4 post that he concreted into the ground (no bad side) he saved the thicker skid parts to burn in the fireplace, his only costs were for the concrete, nails, stain and 4x4 uprights, it took him about a year to gather all the right skids, and he dismantled them as he got them. It's really pretty.
