This "bird' was in my yard this morning. Does anyone know what it is? I thought it was a Pheasant
Anyone know?
Silver Pheasant, young male. A zoo escape.

Hmmm there are no zoo's in my area at all. The nearest zoo is over 50 miles away.
Some people who raise chickens also raise exotic birds. I have no idea why - although I did it myself 40 years ago. I am going to plead temporary insanity in my case.
I don't get that either, pollengarden. I was terribly saddened to see someone with Trumpeter Swans in their farm yard. I was tempted to contact the DNR, but just to be sure, I searched and found there are places that sell them for people to raise.
I was raising Ring-neck pheasants for the Colo Dept of Wildlife, to release. They don't do well in captivity even temporarily - they are too high strung and end up being a danger to themselves and each other. I also had a stray Guinea fowl, it turned out to be a bully around other poultry - I found someone with a flock to turn it over to.
