Mesh backing for tiles Help

Oakland, CA

Hi,

I have a large flat area I want to cover with a mosaic design of my own. I would like to lay the tile onto the mortar as quickly as possible and I was thinking of attaching the tiles to a mesh backing beforehand, so I could just lay sheets of tile down instead of doing them individually. (I'm thinking of the mass produced tile sheets that are currently used for walls etc.) Have any of you made your own? What did you use for backing mesh and how did you attach the tiles to the mesh? I'm thinking hot glue might work.

Thanks for any advice you might have!
