light weight cowl

Has anyone experience with making cowls? Either knitted or crocheted? Most of the patterns I've seem are quite bulky. I direct a church handbell ensemble and we generally wear black with various coloured scarves. A multi-coloured cowl would work too, but it would have to be fairly light weight so as not to be too warm.

Can anyone point me to a pattern that would knit or crochet fairly quickly, and which could be done with a light-weight yarn?
