Extra tall 42 in table lamp ?

I have a very tall table lamp. 42 in from top to bottom. It was purchased by a friend of mine while he was serving in Viet Nam in the late 1960's. It is brass. My mother used it in her large living room for years.
It has been in an upstairs closet for 20 yrs as I do not know what size of table,height and width it requires.
Our son has purchased a new home (built in 1969) with a large living room.
I will clean the lamp up and give it to them but need an idea of what size of table it will work with.I will go garage sale-ing and craigs listing. Is there a formula in design for this size of lamp? the base is probably the diameter of a good size salad plate.

there are formula's re: size of lamp shade, right?
