A friend gave me a potted upright elephant ear several years old. It's stem showed several life cycles, brown rings around stem that got taller each year. It's too tall for me to bring into the garage for indoor life this year--over 9 foot tall including leaves. Can I cut the stem down from it's now 15 inches tall to 4 inches tall leaving the roots intact? I don't really think this will work but I would love to have the advice from someone who has more knowledge on the topic. Thanks Plantjammer
Elephant ear old bulb
As long as you are not cutting into the bulb itself, it will probably be ok. I used to cut mine down and put the potted bulb in the basement in Chicago. It lasted about 4 years before it called it quits.
