Strange plant growing, what is it?

A friend has this growing in his yard and asked what it was. I told him I had no idea. Does anyone know what this is?

Looks like you have Arum italicum http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1759/ .

I agree with David. We have established plantings of Arum and love the tropical look of the foliage.
