ID From Cone

East Bridgewater, MA

I pulled this off of a planting at my local high school after voting last Tuesday. I think the tree was a Japanese White Pine, but the cone doesn't look like a match. The tree was only about 7 feet tall. Any ideas without pics of the tree?

The cone is a good match for Japanese White Pine ;-)

Likely one of the many semi-dwarf cultivars, they usually have cones like this.

If you are able to swipe a cone, then you should (in the future) swipe a bundle of needles, too.

Knowing whether it is a 2 needle, 3 needle, or 5 needle pine (number of needles in a bundle) would always help - in addition to the cone - when an image of the whole plant is not available.

The current generation with smart phones often doesn't have an excuse for not taking a picture when confronted with an unknown plant. Perhaps you are just an old codger set in his ways...just sayin'.
