Tamarack Pine cones - they are small - about 2- 3"

Ponderosa Pine cones - larger + rounder...some are 12" tall and wide.
Great for centerpeices... with greens surrounding it.
Nice when sprayed clear or gold and hung upside down as a kissing ball with
mistletoe, berries and a nice bow

Blue Spruce Pine cones. lighter in weight, 3 - 5" long

White fir pine cones
Great when shoved into a wire wreath frame... just wet the cones so they close,
then shove through wreath frame... place in the sun to dry... and the cones will open .
then decorate as we wish...

Nice when hung upside down and tied to greens, placed on the door, lamp post or
made into garland with greens..

Many have sap on them :-(.... so to get rid of the sap, you can let them soak in hot water...
the sap will melt onto the cones... allow them to dry in the sun to open them up again.

What are the types of pines to use to make floral arrangement for the house at Xmas time. Can I use thuja pine since I have some tree in my yard?

South Lake Tahoe, CA(Zone 6a)

You can use any pine cone for decorations...I tall depends on your arrangement size and design.

I meant the type of branches.

We use Cedar for the smell... but, best pines to use would be the greenest branches with the most sap which will give the best pine scent. But, you must place a table cloth under the centerpiece so the sap will not damage the surface, such a wood since it is very porous or the sap may damage a nice finish ... and that is a no-no.
