can't turn key in ignition

I have a 1997 Toyota Camry. I broke the driver's side inside door handle this week. I don't know if any of this is related.

I drove the car and when I returned the key woudn't turn in the ignition. The key turns a slight but and clicks. The steering wheel moves. My Dad jiggled some wires behind the ignition and the key turned and the car started.

Today I went somewhere and when I returned to the car I couldn't turn the key again. I jiggled the key up and down and it started.

Any idea what this could be? A guy who stopped to help said it might be the pins in the lock.

Thanks.
