I have this lactea (I think) that has formed an awesome crest, but the thing is huge. The crest is a foot across and growing on this one smallish stem. Should I cut the crest off and root it? I have heard that this can be difficult.
Should I root this crest?
I would leave it as is unless there's a stability problem. The normal base should have better roots than a crested one would. It looks like you could cut and re-root it a little higher and still have the advantages of a normal stem, if that would be an improvement. You could also take a cutting from the crest to try rooting it separately, without sacrificing the mother plant, just to see how it works.
I would leave it as it is, except I would cut off any parts that come out that do not show the crested structure. The standard form can take over if you don't remove those pieces.
I think I will keep it supported by the little wire fence thing in the pot and let it do it's thing.
