Kitchen Use of Non-Kitchen Items

New Orleans, LA(Zone 9a)

I thought it might be good to see what things we use in our kitchens that really weren't designed for kitchen use. Here a 2 that I use on a regular basis:

1. Painters tape. I use this for labeling stuff in the fridge so I don't have to write on the container. It stick pretty good & comes off cleanly.

2. Rubber mallet. Had to use this last night when I needed some frozen mixed veggies. The large bag had frozen into a solid lump, and I only needed 2 cupfuls. Out came the mallet and with a little pounding I could get out only what I needed & put the rest back into the freezer.

Anyone else use non-kitchen items for preparing/storing/cooking?
