How late should you plant SEV's and EV's in zone 4B?

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

I was about to order some from Karrol Emmerick, and she said that this is her cutoff date for planting Sev's in zone 4B. So I plan to order in the spring. Is this a rule you fellow northerners follow? I know I planted some in Sept last year.

Wyoming, MN

I have never had any issues with planting D, Sev, Ev as late as September.

I only plant in the spring. I used to plant in the fall but it seems that the plants just sulked the following spring so I no longer do it.

I plant daylilies no later than end of August. in zone 4a. Their roots need to become established before winter to prevent heaving. I think the rule of thumb is to plant 6 weeks before the first frost date in your area. I have never lost a daylily or seedling over winter. Irises I have lost. Personally, I prefer spring planting.

I have planted as late as November. Not a common practice. I wouldn't recommend planting that late. I have no preference unless it is a plant that like the specific planting times. I.E. peonies = fall.
