My wife and I were out and about today and she took me over to see this tree in Lancaster PA. It must be super old. I just wanted to share with you tree enthusiasts. I'm not sure if it's a sycamore or London Plane as I'm not 100% sure on how to tell the difference.
Super Cool Tree
I'd say American Sycamore - due to the whiteness of the bark characteristics.
Another way is when there are the "seed balls" present: American Sycamore has single "hangy down things" versus doubles with London Plane.
Wow, quite a tree. Is it in a public space or residential?
Nice find, it looks like a rogue branch set out and touched down to root. You know its old when the bark turns white and crutches are needed just to stand.
Yes, a grizzled veteran. I always find it amazing how a tree can survive with so little wood left.
Yeah this is a pretty sweet tree. It's on a property for a counseling center.
And I appreciate your wise use of the "yardstick" for scale...
Lol...yeah that's my wife, the 'yardstick'. I asked her to get in the pic for that reason, and she's beautiful, of course :)
Beautiful old tree. Thanks for sharing.
Great old tree! Great young wife, too!
Thanks guys!
