Feeding behavior of Evening Grosbeaks

Monkton, MD(Zone 6b)

This is the second year in a row that the Evening Grosbeaks have flown up under the chassis of our pickup to feed. Last year they used to startle us and come flying out from under the truck. They are feeding under there - goodness know what they are getting - some type of bugs. I am sure it is a learned behavior so I am sure many others have seen the same thing. We are in the UP of MI for the summer. The insects are horrible this year.

It'll be eating insects hit by your pickup while driving and stuck to the undercarriage.

Who'd have thought that, but it makes sense. Nice pics, too, by the way.
