We had a very cold winter so there are brown fronds here and there on our Sagos. As soon as a new flush is established we will cut them off and it will be a pretty plant again. However, on some the sex is forming.....both male and female. If we just chop all the fronds off, will they form new ones or continue to form sex organs.
Does anyone know how to prevent Sagos from forming sex organs.
Here is one that has new flush
Help with Sago Sex problems..................
I do not know how to stop them from trying to make a cone... chopping off frond will not affect the plant's decision to do what it wants to do.
LOL.......you are probably right.
I would think that cutting off the cone would send resources to new leaves, I've seen Sagos go out of leaf after blooming, probably females after setting seed.
I have a place in Cathedral City PS area the sago is huge, on north facing patio with cover. 6' main stem, it has numerous heads forming at the base. I didn't clean it up much but took off the old male cones. It protects me from errant golf balls, I swear it must reach out and grab them when I'm not looking.
