Tilia Americana or Tilia cordata

East Bridgewater, MA

I'm trying to learn how to differentiate these species. This tree didn't have any bract and the leaves were large so I'm thinking Americana. I didn't have a camera so stealing a few leaves was the best I could do.

Your family lets you wak around nekkid? What were you thinking?

As a hint, when next photographically challenged: note other characteristics about the unknown, like bark (flaky, smooth, ridged/furrowed); form (narrow, wide, tall, short); site (street tree, lawn specimen, forest tree; etc.

Every wee bit helps to produce those otherwise one thousand words.
