Iris foliage

Chevy Chase, MD

So in the summer, something---the borers I beleive---make the foliage on my bearded irises truely ratty. Are there bearded iris cultivars that have unratty summer foliage? Doesn't have to wow me. Just be fairly clean.

Well, some may be a little more resistant to borer attack than others, or at least "stand up to the attack" a little better, but, In my opinion, the best thing you can do is get rid of the borers! With out a pic, or two, it's hard to say exactly what your problem really is, as slugs will "eat' the leaves, also (at least in my climate), and depending on your definition of "ratty', it may be a leaf spot type of disease.....Arlyn
