Are Either of These Black Tupelo Trees?

East Bridgewater, MA

I may be wishful thinking; my goal was find this species today growing wild. The first pic was the first tree I looked at so I'm thinking I couldn't be that lucky. The other pics i took of this specimen turned out terrible, so this is all I got. The second two pics are of a different young tree that I'm thinking might be a hickory of some sort.

First one wild cherry- Check the bark, and look for ugly black gall on a branch.
I can tell tupelo by very horizontal thin branches
Second one I think you are right with some hickory. ... I am checking for opposite V alternate. I'm not totally sure what I see there.

Please accept my apologies. That clearly hit you in a way I did not intend. It's the nature of written posts to sometimes not convey the right message.

I just edited out the last sentence because of exactly what you wrote back, but you got to it first, so accept my apologies as well.
