Please help ID

Could you please help ID this plant and tell me how to trim it. I just moved into a new home in PA and I have found many of the plants need trimming.
I have a few smaller plants that look like this too but the outer portion of the plants are a beautiful yellow. Are they they same type of plant. They sure look like it.
Thanks

Golden thread-leaf cultivar of Sawara Cypress Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Filifera Aurea'.

Resin

There are dwarf varieties, but the full sized can get quite big.
The golden color is really brought out by sun exposure.
They accept considerable pruning, though the full sized ones will eventually insist on getting big. I've seen beautiful dense plants and equally beautiful 'thinned' plants.
I don't think topping them is a very effective way to keep them small.

As I have noted in my other forums I just bought this home and I think what the previous owner planted is too large for the areas they are in. I need to keep them more compact in size. I also don't want to remove them.
Would topping do harm to them?
