Lady palms out of control!

Mount Dora, FL(Zone 9b)

Help! We have a fine cluster of lady palms acting as a buffer on our property line, but they are so established now they are encroaching on other plants. What's the best way to contain them? Pulling up the rhizomes is a tough job, and I fear it's only a temporary fix. Any suggestions?

I've found mine are putting out new shoots away from the main clumps. There is probably no permanent fix for that other than pulling the whole lot out. Golden Canes, Dypsis lutescens, would be better as a buffer. They clump but stay more compact, although they grow faster.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I'll check out the Canes you suggest.

You can just dig and put in a rhizome barrier (as with bamboo, only a lot easier). The rhizomes are not so strong you couldn't control them with a fairly inexpensive barrier (unlike the case with most running bamboo).

I planted a lady palm i the ground this past Spring. I'm sure it won't be this kind of problem, I'm hoping it will survive the winter!
