We're planning a desert bed across about a fourth of our front yard...the grass is dying (we killed it) and we plan to put down landscape fabric and then 1/2 to 1 1/2 inch rock as mulch.
We live in zone 8b, San Antonio, with hot humid summers and are SUPPOSED to have 28" of rain a year. Not lately, but you never know. I've got some Sotols started, various yuccas, a century plant and lots of different prickly pears, and a cholla I brought from New Mexico.
What I'd like to add here and there are some cacti--the low-growing stubby kind that don't grow fast, and a barrel type, content to sit there and be cacti, and not freeze if we get a 15 degree winter. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!
