Surprise bloom...

This one crept up on me, and only bloomed about 7 or 8" from the ground! I've never seen it bloom before, but it is Batik, right?

It sure looks like it but Batik is usually taller. :)

This patch of the iris bed has been really slow growing--not the flowers but the soil? I think this one Batik decided "aw, what the heck...everybody else is blooming, I'll give it a shot." :~D

I think it is Batik, even though there are a couple other "broken color" blues. Our batik always blooms on the short side, too, even for a BB. If the soil isn't quite "right", and first bloom ?! See what she does next year....Arlyn
