Tomatoes

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

I will like to know when is the earliest anyone has put the plants in the ground and have had success.I usually put them in after Mother's Day since that is the rule is for my zone 6b

I never put tomatoes in until Memorial Day....too many late frosts here.......

I've planted in early-to-mid May, but with lots of prep. The plants are hardened off in an outdoor covered stand, and the beds have been covered ahead of time with frost blankets to warm the soil. I've even sometimes used hot water from the tap to warm the soil while planting. After planting, the frost blanket goes on over hoops, and stays on until it gets really warm.

This year, I'm not pushing it. Spring here is at least a couple of weeks late, the garden still very dormant last weekend after this tough, tough winter.

Same here, Pam.....usually my peas are in, but I haven't even raked the garden yet....hopefully, tomorrow....
