Here is a cone I pulled off a pine tree while waiting for my kids to get out of their afterschool activities. The tree had 2 long, sharp needles in a bundle, with the needles being very course, like rubbing a dogs fir the wrong way - that kind of an uncomfortable feel.
The cone itself has very sharp spines and hurt like hell twisting off. The cones were facing both up and down on the tree.
Right now the cone is spreading apart with the warmth of room temperature. It scares the bejesus out of me when it cracks open just a bit every 20 minutes or so!
A best guess ID is all I ask - I can go back for more picks another time.
Thanks!
ID From Cone?
Pinus nigra
Resin
Thanks!
