Ti plant- can you eat the berries- can they be planted?

st Thomas, Virgin Islands (USA)

There is a Ti plant in our yard and it has red berries on it- Can I grow a new Ti plant from the berries? Can they be eaten?

Apparently they are edible and yes, they can grow from seed but it is easier and faster to take a cutting to start new plants.

The fruits of Cordyline fruticosa are dry & fleshy.

In Hawai'i the roots of the Ti plant have been used as a food source. The young roots are starchy and sweet and can be eaten much like a potato.
They have also been fermented and turned to beer-like drink, known as 'awa'awa.
