Windows XP Retiring 4/8/14 - What to do????

My laptop computer has Windows XP and they are ending their software updates on April 8, 2014.

Does that mean I will lose access to my email account "hotmail" at that time.

Is there something I can download from Microsoft that will allow me to upgrade to Windows Vista, Windows 7 or 8 that will allow me to continue using my current laptop without going out and buying a new laptop?

There is nothing wrong with my current laptop except Microsoft will no longer be automatically installing updates to XP and some are saying it will allow viruses to come into your computer.

Advice please.
