Earthbox question - re: Replant Kit

Indialantic, FL

This is my first year trying EBs - (had a terrible 2013 year for tomatoes (bugs). , I purchased 3 EBs, 4 Self Watering Troughs from Garden Supply (not for tomatoes).

When I put together the first EB, I was amazed at the amount of Fertilizer/Dolomite used.

I got an email yesterday from EB: buy 2 Replant Kits - get one free - 2 or more are $10 each - so $60 for 6 - less $20 = 40 + $10 for shipping - so 6 for $50.

I know I don't spend anywhere near $8.33 for fertilizer for 2 tomato plants in a regular container.

Are these Replant kits necessary? What else does everyone use?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi Barb
I grew in Ebs for many years and always had great success. I would buy from Lowes and use 10-10-10 fertilizer and dolomite lime which you can only buy now at Home Depot in five lb . bags. Always use bags that say "Container Mix" which is a light fluffy soil and will not compact.
