Plum tree that will not fruit

Wellington, New Zealand

When I moved to Whitby near Wellington, New Zealand, I discovered a plum tree at the back of our overgrown section.
The tree is well established, and produces creamy pink blossoms in profusion in season, but no plums. I have purchased 3 young plum trees Santa Rosa, Fortune, and Elephant Heart, and planted them all close to this tree. They have all flowered and borne fruit, and their flowering times coincide and overlap the older tree, but it doesn't bear fruit. I have even cross pollinated it by hand with the blossoms from the younger trees, but still no fruit. Has anyone got any suggestions I could try to get it to fruit

Pesty, it could be an ornamental plum which will very rarely ever fruit.
It could also be a tree grown from a seed which sometimes also never fruit.
I remember planting a plum seed as a kid and my Dad saying it would never fruit. It took around 10 years, but the darn thing eventually had small cherry plums.
I would just enjoy the blossom and get your fruit from the other trees.
Jean.
