Lamuyo type peppers

Madison, AL(Zone 7b)

I have been growing Jackpot and I love it -- it's a prolific producer of large, thick-walled sweet bells. Unfortunately, I'm out of seeds. And I like these so much, I want to start saving seed. Can anyone recommended a similar open pollinated Lamuyo type that does as well in hot summers?

I am of no help, but they do sound interesting. I hope you get some good recommendations.

Lamuyo type peppers are gaining a foot hold in North America after being popular in Europe for years. Unfortunately I have not encountered an open pollinated one here. They are available in Europe and possibly you may find one from a vendor of European seeds. I checked Gourmet Int, but they only carry hybrid. Jackpot, Mobley, Reina, Gemini, Lido etc are hybrids available in North America.

Seedfork, you should try them. Cal Wonder has never done well for me here -- better if I give them some shade, but fruit are small and don't set well until it cools off.

Jackpot starts producing in about 3 months and just keeps going until frost. (Not quite as overwhelming as banana peppers!) They are monsters with not much pith. Everyone is out of stock this year, so I'll have to try something else. I'll try some of the names Farmerdill noted.

I would love to try them. I already have some Cal. Wonders and some mixed bell peppers started from seed. Suppose to be green, white, orange and red. Not that many of the mixture have germinated so far, so with my luck they will all turn out to be Cal. Wonders. The high school Ag. Dept. sells plants in March normally. Sometimes they will have a few new varieties in Tomatoes, peppers and other plants. I was thinking about buying some of my tomatoes and peppers there again this year so I will check. Maybe some of the botanical garden sales and master gardener sales will have something like that.

I found some Gemini at Park. It's about time to start seeds so hopefully they arrive soon.

That's a big pepper!

I have had good luck with a Burpee hybrid named "Great Stuff". Big, nice peppers.

Some of my Jackpots have been 8" long. Not all are that big but usually at least 6". Gemini looks to be smaller, but that's okay if they still do well.

Frying peppers have made the leap to the U.S., hopefully these will, too.
