My daughter just bought this at Home Depot. It was marked Phalaenopsis without any species or cultivar information. Does anyone recognize it?
She said there are white spots on the stem and roots; the ones on the stem might be barely visible in the photo. I haven't seen it, but I'm guessing they're scale. I told her to wipe them off with a damp paper towel until she can get some insecticide, but if any of you orchid experts have insider tips, I'd love to hear them!
What kind of Phalaenopsis?
Thanks, Ken! She'll be happy to have an i.d.
Not a positive ID, mind you, just something that she can label "Similar to".
It hard to see from the photo but the most common insect pest on orchids is soft scale. They generally feed on the underside of leaves, stems and roots. You can wipe them off with rubbing alcohol and cotton balls but they will return unless you use an insecticide. Bayer 3 in 1 is a good one.

Thanks for the tips! I haven't seen the actual plant (she just sent me the photo), but she doesn't live far so I'll be able to take a close look at it this weekend.
