Soapstone counter query

My heart is set on soapstone counters. I have seen Brazilian soapstone, which I am told is fairly soft. I have seen soap stone from India, it had an interesting spiderweb pattern and it was supposed to be a harder stone than the Brazilian and I have read of Green Mountain soapstone from Vermont. Does anyone know where Green Mountain falls in hardness? Is it really mined in Vermont?
